Which Hawaii’s island is best for young & old? :D?
Sprint SERO Plan #1 asked: I’m planning a family trip to Hawaii. Not sure which island to go. Basically, we have a 2 yrs old, 3 1/2 yrs old, 34 yrs old, 36 yrs old, 59 yrs old, 60 yrs old.
My husband and myself, two kids, his mom, and my mom. All ages.
We’re not planning to sky dive or do any highrise jumping. But, like to see things, small boatings trip, etc. basically small and easy activities for any age to do.
I heard of Maui is a good place but what there to do? I’ve been to the big island before having kids, we did alot of stuffs there but not sure if other islands are better.
Planning to go on Thanksgiving holiday week. How’s the weather? Any suggestion for affordable trip package or nice hotel?

Lucky you! Been to Hawaii eight times and will probably go 8 more before I become horizontal. Which island to go to: they are all unique. We prefer Maui, but really like the big island and Kauai. Get a book (there are many to help decide). My experience is that the weather is always great. If you go to Maui, be sure to go during the whale season basically 11/1 - 4/1. In hawaii you can have a great time being busy, or a great time just relaxing. Go ahead and do the touristy things (luau, snorkeling, whale boating, etc.), but leave a lot of time for doing nothing. Have a great time, I know you will. Need a tour guide? We took small children and they had a blast just on the beach.

I’ve been to 4 of the Islands and the Big Island is still my favorite. From my own frame of reference, the children are fine on any beach, but it’s a pain for parents to lug them around big cities like Honolulu. My dad would love the Volcanoes National Park, but wouldn’t have too much interest in the beach. I like to snorkel, fish and hike.
I will probably stay at the Hilton Waikaloa (Kona) the next time I go to Hawaii. The weather is always nice.
Maui and Kauai are a close second and since you’ve already been to the Big Island they should be considered. Maui (unless you brave a trip to Hana) will be drier than Kauai. Maui attracts more and younger people. Kauai is quieter and when I honeymooned there in ‘86 they didn’t allow any buildings taller than a palm tree.
Affordable? Airfare is going to start at $500 from the West Coast. 6 people may require two rooms but we did put 6 in at the Hilton Waikaloa and they didn’t care. 2 people on each of the two queens, a 14 year old on a roll-away and a 9 year old on the couch. If you were able to pull that off that would be about $35 / person a day.

Your kids are small so they will be fine with any of the Islands. I would say The Adults would enjoy Maui the most, since it seems to have the most diverse entertainment possibilities for Younger Adults as well as older Adults…(I will Post Maui Ideas below) Oahu is alot of fun, it is the more Metropolitan and City like of the Islands…my Teenagers 13,14 and 17 love it since they are able to run around and do things on their own if they want since so much is within walking distance from your Hotels in Waikiki…I Love Oahu as well and I’m 45…but SOME older persons don’t care for it much. Waikiki Beach is one of my all-time favorite Beaches (We all Surf) as is Kaanapali on Maui. I have been to the other Islands but these two Islands are My Families favorites…

There is also a place called Mamas Fish House that I hear is Fabulous…I have never been there but you can bet I will go next time we are in Maui~~Aloha~~
You all may enjoy “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and “Bubba Gumps” as well…both are on Front Street in Lahaina.
Also another can’t miss…The Infamous Green Flash at Sunset…I have seen it only once in all the years going to Maui since I was a kid…read The Big Kahunas directions on catching it and maybe you will see this Natural Marvel your first time….
