The Royal Lahaina or the Kaanapali Beach Hotel are both nice, but I am not sure how much less they are than the ones you listed.

It’s kitschy, it has hula girl lamps in every room, some rooms have beaded curtains, but I love the Makai Inn a couple blocks north of the Lahaina Cannery Mall on Front Street. I think the best suites are maybe $150/night.
It used to be an apartment complex, so most of the rooms have kitchens and sitting rooms. From just about every room (and I’ve stayed in six of them), you can hear the ocean waves break against the sea wall. If you get the Plumeria Hideway, there’s nothing but a hedge between the sea wall and the lanai outside your sitting room!
There’s no TV, no telephone. Just peace and quiet, Java Sparrows in the courtyard, and views of Lanai and Molokai.

I live Maui, and I may have a great place for you.Check out . It is a beautiful , remodeled 1 bedroom condo on ocean front property just 5 minutes from Kaanapalli. Feel free to e mail me about further info. I can gurantee you it is a lot cheaper than a hotel, and better accomodations. Aloha.
