Hawaiian wedding Planning?

CakeJ asked:

My fiance and i want to be married in hawaii. Im just wondering how hard is it to plan a destination wedding? Did you use a wedding planner? Did you stay at a hotel or beach house? Where is a beautiful place , beach or garden lawn, to have the ceremony in Maui? Pretty much, im at the beginning and don’t know which way to go. Any help would be appreciated

My husband and I were married in Kauai this past November. I used the wedding planner at the Marriott and was married in the gardens at the hotel. Everything went flawlessly! We also stayed there, after the wedding we walked over to the beach for photos.

I got most of my information from Trip Advisor, the website has really amazing people giving information about all the islands. As far as which place is right for you, it’s up to you personally. I did not want to get married on the beach, because of the sand and wind, it’s very windy on the beach in HI and we all know that’s not great for our hair, but the pics on the beach turned out the BEST!

I wish we would have had time to island hop a little, but our funds were limited.

I just got married in Maui last July. First let me say that I didn’t have a huge wedding. It was just me & my husband on the beach with 2 friends that happened to be traveling to Hawaii at the same time. However there was another wedding at our hotel that was big & they accomodated everyone perfectly. It was beautiful.

I started by researching what area in Maui I liked the best. Kaanapali is what I chose & it’s gorgeous. It’s a very popular stretch of beach but not overcrowded at all.

How many people are you planning on having there? For me it was pretty simple because I had 2 choices. Either stay in a condo & hire someone who performs beach weddings, or arrange it through a hotel. I didn’t have to deal with a reception so it was easy. Either way (guests or not) I would do it through a hotel. Many of the hotels on Kaanapali have chapels & wedding planners on site. It just going to come down to how much you want to spend.

We did ours at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. It will depend on your preference but I didn’t want the chapel & the huge resort like the Sheraton which was right next door. It seemed a bit cold to me & way too expensive but that’s up to you. We wanted something very authentic Hawaiian & relaxing & we wanted to do it on the sand. It all comes down to how you like to travel. Our package was $1100 & came with the Officiant, blowing of the conch shell, a hula dancer, fresh flower leis, a photographer with prints & video included. The wedding planner arranged everything. All we did was meet them in the lobby. The hotel also has a hair salon & spa where I got a massage the morning of the wedding.

I’ll give you the link for our hotel. We chose the Island Romance package which came with a picnic lunch, dinner for 2 at their restaurant, 2 bottles of water per day, buffet breakfast everyday or champagne brunch, massages or ******* for 2, and we upgraded to the Ocean Front room which was so cool. Our sliding door went right out to a patch of grass that divides the hotel from the sand.

Regardless of what hotel you choose I would highly recommend the Kaanapali area.
