Has anyone heard eerie moaning sounds along an ocean pathway in Wailea?

Having just recently returned from a vacation on Maui, I experienced a strange moment while taking an evening walk along a pathway that links several hotels (Fairmont, Grand Wailea, Four Seasons). A long mournful moaning sound emanated from the ocean rocks below that flanked the beach walk. Calling out to see if anyone was hurt, the wailing continued in an uluating fashion. My wife, several other couples on the road, as well as myself, were suitably alarmed and freaked. Inquiries made at the hotel’s frontdesk and with the locals were met with blank stares and/or evasive answers (i.e., frogs croaking, ocean swells, our imagination, or a combination of).
