Business Networking Quick Tips
How I let $42,000 of sales commissions and revenue slip through my fingers! I was doing everything right, except for one thing. SCARY! A small mistake.
Between my activities, both business and extra-curricular (which is where most of my business came from), I was splitting my focus between about 50 different transactions, committees and projects each day.Along with running my business. That’s a lot of details. It seemed that every meeting I attended, people mentioned “call me for a refi”, “my brother is thinking about selling his house” or “I want to buy a rental property”. The easiest business networking lead I ever got was at our Chamber Planning Retreat, standing at a urinal next to a fellow Chamber Board Member and he said “Call me about…” Man, I love business networking!
One day I put on a jacket that I almost never wore and found two business cards with a notes on the back to call so and so. 2 cards…2 notes and NO DATE! I called both numbers, but the people had gone with other agents and thought that I didn’t need their business. The people that had recommended were angry because I didn’t assist their friends. $42,000 of lost revenue! All because I didn’t have a system to follow up with my business networking activities, requests and conversations. And that was only the business I could directly track back to the two business cards. I have no idea how many “call me” leads that I forgot.
