![]() Maui, Hawaii - Vacations and Vacation PackagesMaui is the second largest of all the Hawaiian Islands. The island of Maui was formed by two different volcanoes. One of these volcanoes is Mt. Haleakala and the is called Puu Kukui. Maui has 42 miles of beautiful beaches, and the island has the largest beach areas to go swimming of any of the Hawaiian islands. The west side of Maui has popular golf courses, resorts and beach front hotels. The west side includes towns such as Kaanapali, Kapalua and Lahaina which is a national historic landmark with a rich Hawaiian history.
Central Maui has the towns of Wailuku and Kahului. Wailuku has quaint shops and is set in a lovely historical district. The port city in Maui is Kahului with many different shopping centers and other activities. The upcountry part of Maui features botanical gardens and breathtaking views. In east Maui you have Hana which is one of the most visited parts of the island. Hana features a scenic coastline and beautiful waterfalls. Most visitors think that a trip to Maui is not complete without visiting Hana. There are several towns in South Maui that are big tourist attractions. The towns of Kihei, Wailea, and Makena are well known for beautiful weather and long stretches of gorgeous beaches. One of the newest resort communities, Wailea, includes some of Maui's most prestigious resorts, hotels, golf courses, and white sand beaches. One of the smaller resort communities, Makena, features some of the best known beaches and snorkeling spots on the island. Running along the eastern coast of the island is the road to Hana. This road curves around the coast line going through many mountains and beaches. The long road to Hana is well worth taking. Among the many breath-taking sights are black sand beaches and gorgeous waterfalls. Another sight, popular with eco-tourists, is the Haleakala National Park which features some of the most beautiful sunrises in the world. The sunrise can be viewed at the top of this dormant volcano, but be advised to bring some blankets! It is much different territory at the top of the volcano than it is on the beach. Another major Maui attraction is Lahaina. In Lahaina you will find an entire street of shops and restaurants. If you follow the chain of shops and food stops it will lead you into a wharf where many visitors set out for a romantic sunset cruise or one of the very popular whale watching tours.
